3. Area 7

1. Outstanding issues

Area 1:

General

Randy said DCRM(MSS) is thinking about using 245 $k ; do we need to incorporate this into our rules if so?

Add option to record GMD.

1C2. Language of parallel titles and relationship to title proper

-          Keep wording “an original title” in 1C2.1 and 1C2.2.

-          Delete qualification “For atlases” at beginning of rule; use the CM example for New East India.

1E3. Transposition of statements of responsibility

-          Revise rules to treat s.o.r. from other areas other than preceding titles.

-          Make the note required.

-          We will incorporate some s.o.r.s from CM 1F1 application.

-          Provide examples for engravers.

1E10.2

             -             nonroman script problem in example

1E13

          -      change "belonging" to "relating" or something similar because the info in question could include textual scale statement that technically do not "belong" in area 3 (since it is not a transcription area); would be a change to DCRM(B) but necessary for us; check other rules that address grammatically inseparable elements to see if the use "belonging"

Area 2:

Incorporate any language from DCRM(G) regarding "state" and the different meaning the word has in a graphic context vs. a bibliographic one?

Area 3:

3A3.2 Order

-          Everyone agreed Manon’s revision worked well.

3B1.5

               -           Add new text: "If scale is represented verbally using imaginary units of measure, transcribe it within quotation marks. If scale is represented graphically using imaginary units of measure, give the statement "Scale not determined." Make a note describing how the scale is represented in the material [need area 7 citation]."

          -          Also, add a "real" example before the existing imaginary one. [Note: if anyone else has notes about this, can you confirm we want to delete "or imaginary units of measure" from the existing text?]

3B4. Nonlinear scale

-     Rewrite first paragraph to read "If the material has a nonlinear scale statement (e.g., ...), transcribe it within quotation marks." Also: add an example of a quoted celestial scale statement.

-     Manon will add “ca.” to example in 3B4 and will rewrite the rule to remove statement “in normalized form” [did we also want to reinstate the mention of imaginary maps?].

Area 4:

4B1.1. (unpublished material)

-          Randy thinks the approach being taken is to supply or transcribe if you can but if you can't, omit it altogether (i.e., don't use S.l. and s.n.)

4D2.2

               -          Okay as is.

Area 5:

5B1.4.

-          Manon will add text about visual and tactile data.

5B9.2

          -           replace "publications" with "atlases"; area 5 citation is "5B15-5B20"

5B13. Manuscript atlases

-          Determine where DCRM(MSS) is recording “bound”; it is not related to the extent of the item. Also determine how DCRM(MSS) is handling the recording of lines and columns (if at all). If we removed the requirement to record lines and columns, this would deviate from CM.

-          Better to put info like "bound" and # of lines/columns in a note and delete 5B13 altogether? We would need to beef up area 7 with examples/instructions. AMREMM puts "bound" info in a note.

5C2. Layout

-          Remove phrase “at the same scale.”

5C5/5C9

               -           Rename 5C5 "Color in an atlas"; assume hand-coloring means issued that way unless have evidence to the contrary. If do have evidence, don't put "col." in 300 and use local note to indicate hand-col. For hand col. of ms. maps, just use "col." For hand col. of printed maps, use "hand col." For printed machine col., use "col." For maps issued in col. and uncol., not sure what to do. Always note statements indicating if a map has been issued both col. and uncol. (or if map contains explanations of color). Add something in App. E about whether to make sep. records. See CM 5C11 App. 1.

5C9. Color [copy-specific discussion]

-          Delete first two sentences of 5C9.2 [replace with anything?]

Typo: 5C5.3 should be 5C9.3

5C10. Medium and 5C11. Material

-          Add a “see also” references to Area 7.

5C12. Mounting [copy-specific discussion]

-          Revise rule to include dissection; 5C12. Dissection and/or mounting

-          Parallel rule with rules for ill. in 5C9.2.

-          Provide additional examples

-          Deviates from CM.

5D1.9. [definition of “collection”]

-          Remove “in a collection” from rule.

5D2.3 and 5D4.1 - extra blank line at end

5D5. Containers

-          Add example with cover as a container.

-          Randy will provide example of cover as container for sheet map.

5E1.2

          -          Todd will provide examples

2. Area 6:

6A2.1

-          Manon will rephrase to match the language in other areas.

6A2.3.

-          Do we need parallel rules for non-atlases, globes, realia, etc.?
