Examples Found (Area 6)

Page history last edited by Manon Theroux 9 years, 11 months ago

6A1.  ("Enclose a date ...")

NK:  It wouldn't be appropriate to have an example under this rule, but it would be great to have an example somewhere in Area 6 if we can find one that has a date to be included following a numeric or alphabetic designation.

6A2.2 (series from source other than the recto of the sheet (for materials printed or drawn on sheets), the series title page (for atlases), or the item itself (for globes and other realia)

(Breou’s official series of farm maps)

Note: Series statement from head of t.p.

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/map49000180

Image: http://www.pa-genealogy.net/servlet/the-2964/Breou%27s-Official-Series-of/Detail

Status: Used 7/7/13

(Walker's county maps)

Note: Series statement from cover

Bibliographic record: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b18347582~S1
Status: Used 11/6/11

MT: Deleted need for 3rd example (showing series editor taken from different source). 2/9/14

6A2.3 (series appears in more than one place)

(Bacon's new shilling war map ; no. 4)

Optional note: Series statement also appears on cover as: Shilling series, no. 4

Status: Used 5/6/13

(Publication no. 12 of the Sierra Club)

Optional note: Series statement also appears on cover as: Publications of the Sierra Club. Number 12

Bibliographic record: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10981004~S1

Images: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7321780@N05/8263713434/ (map, showing series statement)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/7321780@N05/8263721264/ (cover, showing variant series)

Status: Used 11/6/11

Comment: This is the same example we use in 6B2. It would be nice to have a different one, but if we can't find another this will do.

6A2.4.

(New geography series ; IV)

Note: Series statement from label on t.p.

Status: Used 4/20/14

MT: This is a made-up example. I just took the B example and changed one word. 4/20/14

6A2.5

Optional note: "New world series 1508-1992"--Publisher’s catalog

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/85690296

6C. Parallel titles of series

6C1.

(Canadian cities, bird's eye views = Villes du Canada, vues à vol d'oiseau)

Bib: http://collectionscanada.gc.ca/ourl/res.php?url_ver=Z39.88-2004&url_tim=2014-04-26T17%3A26%3A10Z&url_ctx_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Actx&rft_dat=30099210&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fcollectionscanada.gc.ca%3Aamicus⟨=eng

(has link to French-language bib as well)

Image: http://www.acmla.org/images/Dawson.jpg

(but it is so tiny you really can't see it)

Status: Used 4/26/14

MT: This same series is also an example in Maxwell's Handbook for AACR2. 4/26/14

6D1 (other title information)

(Theatrum orbis terrarum : a series of atlases in facsimile ; first series, volume V)

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/map65000082

Image: http://old.pbagalleries.com/search/item_img.php?n=&acq_no=171733&s=f

Status: Used 10/7/13
MT: Note: Appears on series t.p. as "THEATRVM ORBIS TERRARVM" but other words on t.p. etc. use "U" not "V" for medial vowels. 10/7/13

6E1 (statements of responsibility)

(Michigan handbook series / University Museums, University of Michigan ; no. 4)
Note: Series statement from t.p.; series title and numbering appear before imprint; statement of responsibility for series appears at head of title

Bib/image: http://lccn.loc.gov/31029284

Status: Used 7/7/13

MT: The example is from a 1931 publication not likely to be cataloged using DCRM(C) but I figure we can replace it if we find something better. 7/7/13

Rio Colorado of the West

Series: Explorations and surveys / War Department ; map no. 1

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b14266165~S1

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/ypuj79

Status:

MT: This authority record says "Explorations and Surveys" is a corporate body, subordinate to the War Dept., not a series: http://lccn.loc.gov/nr93039513

6E2. Parallel statements of responsibility relating to series

6E2.2

(Facsimile / Association of Canadian Map Libraries = Fac-similé / Association des cartothèques canadiennes ; no. 50)

Image: http://www.acmla.org/maps/050.jpg

Status: Used 4/26/14

6F. ISSN of series

(Map series, 0085-0624 ; no. 149)

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10260521~S1

Status: Used 4/6/13

RB: While it is true that a cataloger would be unlikely to use DCRM(C) to catalog this title, remember that ISSN has only been around since the 1970s, so any map with an ISSN would be just as likely/unlikely to be given the DCRM(C) treatment (as I'm sure would a book, serial, etc.)

MT: Added "ISSN" before number per AACR2/CM, though I know in MARC it's not entered. Not having an image, I'm not sure if the letters actually appear on the item or not, though probably they do. Also not sure if "no." appears as such on the piece or is spelled out. 4/5/13

6G1.1

(Eclectic series ; number one)

Note: Series from cover; series numbering precedes series title

Image: http://www.mapsofpa.com/art8pics/1870-2671-1.jpg

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/04036090

Status: Used 4/20/14

MT: Bot even sure this qualifies as an atlas. I suspect the title page has the longer form of the series title but since we're having trouble finding an example, I'm going to pretend this is the only series statement on the item. 4/2-/14

6G1.2

MT: Deleted need for these two examples; the DCRM(B) examples should work just fine. 5/19/13

6G2

Number "No 436" appears in upper right corner of sheet; issued as part of the "Carte" series by the Dépôt général de la marine

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10605636~S1

Image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7321780@N05/8571124916/

Status: Used 4/20/14

MT: I guess I'm not sure this is really a series. Could it be a plate number from an atlas? I don't think I see this identified as a series anywhere except in records created by Berkeley. I agree it should be transcribed in a note, but not sure that it works for this rule. 4/6/13

MT: I went ahead and added this. 4/20/14

Note: "Series F". Issued as part of Maury’s "Wind and current charts" series; see Pinsel

(Comment: Making a note on the number is required; providing the additional information from Pinsel is optional; a separate note is used to provide a full citation for the reference to the published description in Marc I. Pinsel's The wind and current chart series produced by Matthew Fontaine Maury (Navigation 28, no. 2 (1981)))

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/2009575917

Status:

MT: This is another possibility, but it too seems problematic. I like the fact that we have a bibliographic citation for a journal article (makes it seem less "made-up") but the title in the note ("Wind and current charts") is different from the title in the 4xx ("Maury map collection") and the numbering in the 4xx is also different (F5 not just F). Also not sure "Series F" is numbering rather than a subseries. And there is no image. 10/6/13

6G3. Numbering relating to parallel series titles

6G3.1

(Memoir / Canada. Dept. of Mines, Geological Survey ; no. 38 = Memoir / Canada. Ministère des mines, Commission géologique ; no 38)

Bib: http://collectionscanada.gc.ca/ourl/res.php?url_ver=Z39.88-2004&url_tim=2013-10-19T20%3A20%3A44Z&url_ctx_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Actx&rft_dat=32664846&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fcollectionscanada.gc.ca%3Aamicus⟨=eng

Image: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/bibliography/60642#/summary

Status:

MT: Deleting this example; the Amicus bib record showed parallel series data but it doesn't seem to be present on the item. Back to the drawing board ... 10/19/13

Applied geological maps of Korea ; vol. 7 = Hanʻguk ŭngyong chijilto ; che 7-kwŏn

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10577185~S1

Image: None found

Status: Used 5/17/14

6G3.2

(Facsimile / Association of Canadian Map Libraries = Fac-similé / Association des cartothèques canadiennes ; no. 50)

Image: http://www.acmla.org/maps/050.jpg

Status: Used 4/26/14

MT: This repeats the example used under 6E2.2, but I think that is okay.

6H. Subseries

6H1

(Sharpe's corresponding maps. Enlarged series ; no. 6)

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/js6380

Status: Used 5/1/14

(Mapas México. Colección planos urbanos)

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10856322~S1

Status: Used 4/26/14

MT: Not an item likely to be cataloged using DCRM(C) but it will have to do. 4/26/14

6H2. Phrase such as “new series,” “second series,” etc.

(Studies in cartography. Second series)

(Comment: Series is unnumbered)

Status: Used 4/20/14

MT: This is a made-up example. I just took the B example and changed one word. 4/20/14

(Cartogramas. Série 1, Localidades urbanas)

(Comment: Series is numbered)

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b14451546~S1

Status:

MT: Just found this "real" example, though have no image and it is not an item likely to be cataloged using DCRM(C). Would this be better than the made-up example or not? 4/26/14

(Transactions / American Philosophical Society ; vol. I, new series)

(Comment: Series is numbered)

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/fn9jsl

Status: Used 7/7/13

6J. More than one series statement

(Reproductions of early manuscript maps / Royal Geographical Society ; 4) (Bodleian Library map reproductions ; 1)

Bibs:
http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b10745432~S60

http://hdl.handle.net/10079/bibid/8199793
http://lccn.loc.gov/map65000515

Auth: http://lccn.loc.gov/no2005119834

Image: none

Status: Used 4/20/21

MT: I'm hesitant to use this example without an image since these are transcribed fields and different bib records are showing different things. The Yale bib has linked images but they're off limits to me (the Yale bib also doesn't have the series statements but it is a preliminary record). The Berkeley bib has the series but one is a 4xx and one is a 8xx. I'm guessing the statement(s) are on the accompanying pamphlet. LC's bib has the series but both as 8XX not 4XX. The LC authority record suggests the statement of responsibility for the 1st series (see 670 field), so I added it. 10/5/13

TF: I looked at the Yale copy and there were only the sheets of the facsimiles, neither of which had any series statements on them. There was no cover or any other indication of where the series titles came from. 10/11/13

MT: I've just used this as is since it is proving so hard to find another example. 4/20/14

(Alaska history ; no. 38) (Maps of Russian America ; 2)

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b11221239~S1

Status:

MT: I just found this example in Oskicat, if we think the example above is too suspect. But I have no image to verify the transcription. It is at the Bancroft, so maybe Randy can check it (e.g. to see if "no." abbreviated on the item)if we do want to use it instead.  4/26/14
