4A3.2. (transposed element)

Philadelphia : Everts, Ensign & Everts, 714 & 716 Filbert St., 1876

Note: On t.p., place of publication follows street address in imprint

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/23ig96

Status: Used 5/18/14

MT: Added an atlas example so we would have an example of a required transposition note. 5/18/14

Philadelphia : Published by S. Augustus Mitchell : For sale by S. Augustus Mitchell, N.E. corner of Market & Seventh Streets, 1846

Optional note: Publisher name appears before remainder of imprint on map

TF: Could this example from Rumsey's site work: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/677t1d

The publishing statement is in a separate location than the place and manufacturer and "Philadelphia" is only noted with the manufacturer's statement; could this be construed as being transposed?

MT: I think we can use this (though it isn't a publisher+manufacture statement but rather a publisher+distributor statement). I added it as above. 8/25/12
Status: Used 8/25/12

MT: Deleted need for a third example. 5/19/13

[Launceston, Tas.] : Published in the Launceston Examiner Office, situate in Charles-street, Launceston, Van Diemen's Land : By Jonathan Stammers Waddell, residing in Patterson-street, in Launceston aforesaid, printer, [1850]

Bibliographic record: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b18276442~S1

(could also be used for 4A6.3.1)
Status:
MT: 4A3.2 is for situations where elements are transposed; how does this example illustrate this? Are we thinking we SHOULD transpose? Might look like this:

Launceston, Van Diemen's Land [Tas.] : Published in the Launceston Examiner Office, situate in Charles-street : By Jonathan Stammers Waddell, residing in Patterson-street, in Launceston aforesaid, printer, [1850]

Note: Place of publication appears after "Charles-street" in map's imprint

MT: 4A6.3.1 is for situations where publisher and manufacturer statements are not separable; in this example, the publisher and printer have been separated into two $b; are we thinking that they should be combined into a single $b? Would look like this:

[Launceston, Tas.] : Published in the Launceston Examiner Office, situate in Charles-street, Launceston, Van Diemen's Land, by Jonathan Stammers Waddell, residing in Patterson-street, in Launceston aforesaid, printer, [1850]

TF: I would say it fits more in 4A6.3.1. 1/21/12

MT: I agree. I used it there. 2/24/13

4A3.3. (element not grammatically separable, thus not transposed)

London : Published Feby. 1st. 1822 by G. and W.B. Whitaker, T. Cadell, and N. Hailes, [1822]

(Comment: The date of publication has not been transposed because it is not a grammatically separable element)

Status: Used 8/25/12

A map of the town of Shrewsbury, Mass. / compiled and published by L.M. Parker. -- [Shrewsbury, Mass.? : L.M. Parker], 1859 (Boston : Meisel Brothers Lith.)
(Comment: The name of the publisher has not been transposed from the title and statement of responsibility area because it is not a grammatically separable element)

http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b16848739~S1 (bib record, needs editing)

http://www.leventhalmapcenter.org/details_12912/?dl_pp=65&srch_order=author&mtid=1 (digital image)

Status: Used; Deleted 1/29/14 because it is an example of the new "combo" rule in 4A3.4 but isn't needed there

MT: Revised to enclose each bracketed element in its own pair of brackets. 10/16/13

Map of the United States / corrected from the most authentic sources and published by E. Huntington ; E. Huntington, sc. -- Hartford [Conn.] : [E. Huntington], 1831

(Comment: Name of publisher not transposed...)

MT: This example is really similar to the one above; do you think we need both? 8/25/12

TF: I'd say not; let's use the one above. 1/21/12

London. : Engraved & published by Willm. Faden, geographer to the King, Charing-Cross,, Octor. 6th, 1783.

(Comment: We might want to tweak this example to conform to our rules if we decided to use it; as MT wrote recently, would we put this publisher statement in the SOR because of "Engraved"?  On the other hand, look at the image, and see how this statement is at the bottom center of the map, and there's a clear other SOR in the circular cartouche at the upper right. Should our rules, in a case like this, steer the statement into Area 4, as this cataloger has done it, rather than into Area 1?  NK 8/27/12)

MT: Yes, I would want to transcribe this in area 4. 5/13/13

MT: This has been proposed as an example for 1F1 in "proposed-revisions-20131111.doc"; it is presented as an imprint (i.e. area 4). 1/21/14

MT: Used twice, once in 1F14, once in 4A3.4. 1/29/14

4A3.4

A geological map of the United States / engraved & printed by Fenner, Sears & Co. -- London : Published March 15, 1832 by I.T. Hinton & Simpkin & Marshall, [1832]

(Comment: The engraver statement containing the name of the printer has been transcribed as a statement of responsibility)

4A4. Fictitious or incorrect information

Carte generale des costes de l'Europe ... A Paris : [Alexis Hubert Jaillot], 1693 [i.e. Amsterdam : Pierre Mortier]

Note: "The chart [is] of French origin ..., but [was] engraved and printed by Pieter Mortier in Amsterdam"--Koeman, C. Atlantes Neerlandici, IV, p. 425.

Image: Jaillot_1693
Bigger image: http://www.raremaps.com/gallery/enlarge/17957

Bib. record: [I couldn't find a catalog record, although Yale has the atlas in which this map is located; if need be, I can catalog the one map]

Status:

TF: I'm not sure this would work, as there is no publisher named. Let me look around for another example. 1/26/12

MT: Yes, I can't tell where Jaillot is coming from. It could be done like this "A Paris [i.e. Amsterdam] : [Pierre Mortier], 1693" but that would illustrate different rules (4B9, 4C8). We don't have anything under 4C8, so I'll put it there. 2/24/13

Amsterdam : Pierre Mortier, [1696?]

Note: Imprint possibly fictitious
http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b16204459~S60

RB: Looking into this! 5/11/13

RB: False alarm. Can't find any justification for the fictitious imprint note. Mortier was an Amsterdam book and atlas seller, whose name appears on the atlas from whence this map came. 5/13/13 -- Ha! I just noticed that the previously rejected example is for the same person!

MT: This wouldn't have fit the rule anyway since not all elements fictitious/incorrect. 1/16/14

MT: Rule deleted per DCRM Editorial Guidelines wiki. 1/16/14

4A4. Labels

New York : Perris & Browne, publishers of insurance maps, no. 13, Chambers Street, [1861?]
Note: Imprint from printed label affixed to top right corner of title page

4A5.1. (statements relating to publication, distribution, etc., only)

Norimbergae : Impensis Homannianorum Haeredum, 1775.

Status: Used

London : Published by W. Faden, Geographer to the King & to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, Charing Cross ..., sold by W. Allen & J. Archer, Dublin

Bib

Image

Status: Used 2/24/13

MT: The statements are separable so I think we need two $b here. Also, I think the bookseller info (names and place) can be transposed from their position following the date, and the mark of omission would not be needed. So, I added it like this: "London : Published by W. Faden, geographer to the King & to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, Charing Cross ; Dublin : Sold by W. Allen & J. Archer, January 2d., 1797". But I'm open to other interpretations! 2/24/13

4A5.2.1 (manufacturer functioning as publisher)

Coloniae : Ex officina typographica Jani Bussemechers, anno MDXCIIII

Bib [not a great record]

Image

Status: Used 3/31/13

TF: This example is similar to the Sayer one above (printer as publisher), but I'm trying to find non-English examples. 3/7/13
MT: Added [1594] after roman numerals. 3/31/13

London : Printed by Robt. Sayer, 1789

Bib

Image

Status: Used 12/17/12 but included street address ", no. 53 Fleet Street" per info on map.

Venezia : Presso Antonio Zatta, 1778

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/h42zb6

Status: Used 4/9/13

MT: Note: Item also has privilege statement "con Privilegio dell' Eccellentissimo Senato" at end. Waiting to hear back from DJL on treatment of privilege statements. 4/9/13

MT: Just remembered that we added privilege statements to the list of items to be silently ignored in 1A2.2 based on our DP3, discussed at ALA Annual 2010. So, this example is correct as is. 5/18/13

[San Francisco] : R. Münch, lith. : Steam print. of F. Korbel & Bros., 1875

Bib: http://oskicat.berkeley.edu/record=b11259595~S1

Image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7321780@N05/7947587096/

RB: This example could also be used for 4C6.1 (two or more names of publishers, etc.; grammatically separable)

Status: Used 2/24/13

Amstelodami : Ex officina et sumptibus Iudoci Hondii, [ca. 1630]

Bib

Image

Status:

MT: I don't think this example fits this rule. The rule says "if the material bears only a statement relating to manufacture, or multiple such statements ...". The example has a statement that relates both to manufacture (officina) and publishing (sumptibus). They are not grammatically separable, so I think the rule that fits this example is 4A6.3.1. I will use it there. 2/24/13

4A5.2.2 (manufacturer not the publisher)

[Washington, D.C. : U.S. House of Representatives], 1885 (Washington, D.C. : N. Peters, photo-lithographer)

http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b15829345~S1 (bib record)

http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchdetail.cfm?strucID=773793&imageID=1517365 (digital image)
Status: Used

MT: Revised to enclose each bracketed element in its own pair of brackets. 10/16/13

MT: I've been reading up on the history of U.S. Congressional publishing and printing before the establishment of GPO and it is a very complicated affair, enough so that I don't feel confident with our supplied publisher statement here. Replacing with a more straightforward example. 6/15/14

[Louisville, Ky.] : [Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company], [1886] ([Louisville, Ky.] : Courier-Journal Job Printing Co.)

4A5.3.1. (statements relating to publication, distribution, etc., and to manufacture; inseparable)

Philadelphia : Printed for Matthew Carey, by Lang and Ustick, 1796

http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/92m0yw

Status: Used 8/25/12

MT: actually reads "Mathew", so edited accordingly. Also, corrected rule number (above) where example belongs; had originally proposed for 4A6.3.2.1 (grammatically separable). 8/25/12

Printed and given out at Amsteldam by Nicolas Visscher upon the Dam in the Signe of the Fisher, with priviledge of ye States Generalls and are to be sould at London by Iohn Overton at the White Horse without Newgate

Bib. record: http://neworbexpress.library.yale.edu/vwebv/holdingsInfo?bibId=9737012

Image: http://www.swaen.com/zoomamo.php?id=13657 [imprint in lower right corner]

Status: Used 9/23/12

MT: This image is for an earlier state of this map than the one described in the bib record (the dedication is to James II not William III). I made our example match the image. I changed "in the Signe" to "at the Signe". I changed the supplied date of pub. to [ca. 1688] (based on the Swann description). I also made "Signe" lower-case (per the style of the DCRM(B) examples) and changed the transcription of "ye" to "[the]" in accordance with Appendix G3; do I have that right? 9/23/12

MT: Just remembered that we added privilege statements to the list of items to be silently ignored in 1A2.2 based on our DP3, discussed at ALA Annual 2010. So, I've omitted the privilege statement from the example without using the mark of omission. 5/18/13

Amstelodami : Ex officina et sumptibus Iudoci Hondii, [ca. 1630]

Bib

Status: Used 2/24/13

[Launceston, Tas.] : Published in the Launceston Examiner Office, situate in Charles-street, Launceston, Van Diemen's Land, by Jonathan Stammers Waddell, residing in Patterson-street, in Launceston aforesaid, printer, [1850]

4A5.3.2.1. (Manufacturer statement emphasized)

Lugduni Batauorum : Excudebat typis suis Isaacus Elzevirius, sumptibus Iudoci Hondii, anno MDCXVIII [1618]

Bib

Image

Status: Used 3/31/13

TF: Although the manufacturer statement hasn't been emphasized typographically, could one consider it's been emphasized (over publication) by being noted first in this statement?

MT: Yes, of course. But the two statements have to be punctuated as separate $b if they are to fit this rule, so I made it as follows (if someone with better Latin than me knows that these two are not separable, please speak up!):

Lugduni Batauorum : Excudebat typis suis Isaacus Elzevirius : Sumptibus Iudoci Hondii, anno MDCXVIII [1618]

Manchester : Printed at the office of G. Nicholson, No. 9, Spring-Gardens ; London : Sold by T. Knott, No. 47, Lombard-Street and Champante & Whitrow, Jewry-Street, 1796

MT: Example is DCRM(B) example. Kept because we could not find another one to take its place. 7/6/14

Paris : Impr. Gaillac-Monrocq ; Cartes Taride, [1926?]

Status:

Bib: http://hdl.handle.net/10079/bibid/11265196

MT: I'm hesitant to add this without an image to verify transcription. The closest OCLC record I find just has Carte Taride in the the imprint. 6/29/14

4A5.3.2.2. (Statements relating both to publication, distribution, etc., and to manufacture; separable; publisher emphasized)

Philadelphia : Published by M. Carey, 1814 ([Philadelphia] : T.S. Manning, printer, N.W. corner of Sixth & Chesnut Streets)

Image: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/3b0527

Status:

MT: Trying to decide if the publisher statement is emphasized here. It follows the "engraved and printed" statement, so it doesn't "appear first in sequence". It might have a slightly bigger font size, but I'm not sure. The surname is all caps - maybe that's enough. Or, should the "engraved and printed" statement be transcribed as a statement of responsibility instead, by virtue of the "engraver" role, as was done in the bib record? 5/13/13 (note: We probably have enough examples already ...)

RB: When I looked at this, I didn't even consider that the engraved/printed statement appeared "first in sequence." I guess, technically, it does because both statements are printed on the same line. But, I don't think I would ever transcribe the manufacture statement first. It's off in the corner of the map and the publisher statement is in the center. Of course, leaving it in the SOR solves the problem... (Yes, we probably have enough examples already) 5/14/13
MT: To make things more complicated, I just noticed that the link provided above only goes to one of the 4 sheets that make up the map. If you look at the composite image for the entire map, the publisher statement appears twice, once before the engraver/printer statement and once after. Here's the link: http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/s/6w321h  2/9/14

London : Published by Baldwin & Cradock, 47 Paternoster Row, Decr. 15th, 1832 ([London] : Printed by E. Brain, Bartholomew Close)

MT: It is strange to have a mix of Latin and French like this isn't it? I'm hesitant to use it because of that.

TF: I thought the same, but aside from the mix of languages, it fits the rule. Keep and discard if we find a better example?
MT: It just makes me question the transcription is all, though it is perfectly conceivable it actually does appear that way on the piece.

TF: Here's a better example below. 3/11/13

A Amsterdam : Imprime chez Henry Hondius et se vend a Paris chez Melchior Tavernier ... [1633]

Bib. record: http://hdl.handle.net/10079/bibid/10069291

Image: [not imaged yet; will be soon]

Comment: I'm not sure if the privilege statement, which is part of the imprint, should be transcribed; if not, use mark of omission?
Status:

RB: I wouldn't consider this example to fit the rule. I would transcribe the "Se vend ..." statement in the 260$a (i.e. "Se vend a Amsterdam : Chez P. Mortier ...") 5/13/13

MT: Privilege statements are on the list of items to be silently ignored in 1A2.2 based on our DP3, discussed at ALA Annual 2010. 5/18/13

MT: Agree with Randy "Se vend ..." statement goes in 260$a, so striking through this example. 11/11/13

MT: They are indeed difficult to find. I spent a ton of time looking before I found the "sign" example above. In order to illustrate an "address" example (the other category covered by the rule), it just occurred to me that we could simply carry over B's example (which is generic enough that it could work for any format). Status: Used 9/1/12

MT: The piece actually has "avec privilege" after "Globes". Rule 1A2.2. says don't transcribe statements of privilege as part of that area, but we don't really say what to do regarding area 4. Rule 7B9.1 does have an example of a note relating to area 4 "Publisher named in privilege statement as Sulpice Sabon" which I guess sort of implies that we shouldn't transcribe privilege statements, but something in me doesn't like omitting them like this. I can see how they aren't area 1 info but they do seem like valid info for area 4. Any thoughts?

TF: Privilege statements appear very often following imprint information, at least for many of the maps I have cataloged. Although I have been silently transposing them to notes, I am not comfortable doing so. Perhaps we can tweak some of the rules for 4C to instruct one to include any privilege statements that are clearly part of the publisher, distributor, etc. area (such as the example above).

MT: Actually, 1A2.2. says no such thing. Apologies! I'll double check with DJL if there's something we're missing but otherwise I think we can transcribe it. 4/7/13
MT: Sorry, 1A2.2 does say that! Not in DCRM(B) but in our rules because that's what we proposed in our DP3, discussed at ALA Annual 2010. We're instructed to put the info in a note if we want to record it. So I guess the example is correct as we have it, though there is still the area 1 vs, area 4 angle I guess. 5/18/13

MT: This one might be a bit of a stretch. It's a modern-day fantasy map created in Photoshop. So, probably it only exists in electronic form (though I guess you could print it out). I'm just not having any luck finding fictitious imprints. Let me know if you think this example is not useable. 7/14/13

LSC: Works fine for me.  At some point, someone will be using DCRMC to describe e-facsimiles of early cartographic materials because it makes more sense not to use two separate sets of rules.  Furthermore, we will need to account for e-materials in Special Collections at some point, probably sooner as the RDA-DCRM is compiled.

MT: The rule addresses situations when both the place and name of the original publisher and the place and name of the republisher appear on the piece. Do you think this example fits, even though the place associated with the original publisher is grammatically integrated with the publisher name and thus has to also be supplied in square brackets? Note that in a similar record, LC has transcribed the publisher statement as a statement of responsibility: http://lccn.loc.gov/2006458666. I don't think any of our rules would cover doing that, would they? Also, I based the form of the supplied name on the authorized heading in the LC NAF, but elsewhere in our rules we have an example of the supplied place name with "Saint" abbreviated as "St." (in fact, that example was inherited from DCRB). I assume we want to be consistent. Do we have a preference? 1/29/14

TF: I think we would prefer an example that actually has both place names; I'll see if I can find one. I would also use the authorized form of a supplied place name in all examples. 1/30/13
MT: We should use the spelling found in authorized access point when supplying place names in examples, per DCRM Steering Group. I have changed "St." to "Saint" in 4B10.2 (text) and 4B12.1 (example). 2/4/14

MT: Or maybe the place *is* separable and can be transposed, like this? 2/1/14:

MT: What do you think about this one? The Folger bib record has the "And are to be sold .." phrase in the 260 field (which is understandable given that it appears at the bottom of the t.p.). But doesn't the word "and" imply the phrase is grammatically inseparable from what comes before? That's why I did it as above, but I'm not 100% sure ... (note: the bib and the image are slightly different - I used the image). 11/11/13

NK: I agree with what you've done, Manon. Especially because it's "and are" without a subject for the "are" makes it seem grammatically inseparable. 12/10/13.

MT: Consulted with Deborah and Erin and they agree too. 1/20/14

NK: I want to introduce another example, but am not sure if this is the right place, or if this would be better under 1F1 as in your proposed revisions of 11/11/13. When I made a record for NYPL, I copped out and just put this in a note (and didn't do the brackets quite right), but LC didn't even transcribe the full statement.

4D2.7. Multiple adjustments or additions

First 3 examples:

MT: Deleted need for examples; DCRM(B) examples should work since Wing and STC contain atlases. 1/29/14

4th example:

, [1808 i.e. 1809]

Note: Includes dedication, and note by J.B. Varnum, dated Feb. 1st, 1809

(Comment: The 1808 date is supplied in square brackets because it has already been transcribed as a grammatically inseparable part of the publisher, distributor, etc., element in accordance with 4D1.4)

Bib/image: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b15022058~S1

Status: Used 2/23/14

MT: Note: This example done differently than in bib record (which I don't think reflects our rules). 2/23/14

4D3. Date of publication, distribution, etc., supplied from reference sources

, [1864]

Note: Publication date from LC Civil War maps (2nd ed.)

(Comment: A separate note is used to provide a full citation for the reference to the published description in the Library of Congress Geography and Map Division's Civil War maps (2nd ed.))

Bib: http://lccn.loc.gov/99447285

MT: Added comment. 4/3/13

4D4.1 Conjectural date of publication

, [between 1931 and 1936?]

Note: Shows completed George Washington Bridge (completed 1931) and Triborough Bridge under construction (constructed 1929-1936)

Bib: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b15911974~S38

Image: Not needed

Status: Used 9/22/12

, [1946?]

Note: Publication date derived from publisher's date code on map: "6-46"

Bib: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b12497502~S1

Image: none found

Status: Used 9/22/12

MT: The bib record doesn't explicitly say the date was derived from the code, but it seems likely that it was. I found this page that explains date codes a bit: http://www.waml.org/datecode.html 9/22/12
MT: Does this seem like the right rule to put this example under? I hesitated between 4D3 and 4D4.1. To fit 4D3, the date of publication can't appear in the material (which it doesn't, though the date code does) but in this example the date is not being supplied from a reference source (or any external source), though one could argue that you need a reference source to interpret the date code (this would especially be true if the code had been one that involved reversed numbers). To fit in 4D4.1, the supplied date has to be conjectural, which meant I had to add a question mark to it, but one could argue it isn't really conjectural because the date code is the equivalent of a publication date. In a way, it is almost similar to a chronogram situation. Do you think we should insert an additional rule in 4.2 to cover these situations? Something like this (renumbering the existing 4D2.3-4D2.7)?:

4D2.3. Publisher's date codes. If the date appears only in the form of a publisher's date code, supply the date of publication in square brackets. Make a note explaining the source of the date. Include a transcription of the date code in the note, if considered important.

9/22/12

, [between 1748 and 1760?]

Note: Robert Sayer was associated with the "Golden Buck" address from 1748, when he took over the shop of Philip Overton, to 1760, when he moved a few doors east to premises that eventually became numbered 53 Fleet Street; see biographical details on the British Museum's website)

Bib/image: http://hdl.handle.net/10079/bibid/8099846

Status: Used 10/6/13

BM biographical details page: http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/search_the_collection_database/term_details.aspx?bioId=108517

MT: Suggestions for wording the note (or revising the date span) are welcome. The bib record doesn't say where they are getting their information from, so I revised it to fit the best info I could find. 10/6/13

, [between 1791 and 1820?]

Note: John Cary was associated with the no. 181 Strand address between 1791 and 1820; see Maxted's London book trades

Bib: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b19769669~S1

Status: Used 4/20/14

MT: Here's another example I just found we could use instead of the Sayer example if we wanted. The note would prob. need a little tweaking. There is no image link. 2/11/14

MT: Used the Cary example instead, since the reference to the BM site in the Sayer example was not very precise. 4/20/14

4D4.2 (prominent date that does not represent the date of publication)

, [1879?]

Note: At head of title: Revised in accordance with the Treaty of Berlin, 1878

(Comment: Date at head of title is not the date of publication)

Bib: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b13932758~S1

Image: None found; not needed?

Status: Used 9/23/12
MT: Note: The bib record has pub. date as [1879] but nothing to explain where it came from; okay to make it a conjectural date here by adding a question mark? 9/23/12

4D6. Copyright dates and dates of deposit

4D6.3 (date of copyright or deposit does not represent the probable date of publication)

, [1861?]

Note: Date of publication suggested by date of map revision; 1860 copyright date appears at foot of title page

(Comment: The statement "corrected to October 1861" appears in the statement of responsibility)

Bib: http://catalog.nypl.org/record=b13985998~S1
Image: http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/id?1695420
Status: Used 9/3/12; revised comment 12/17/12 to change s.o.r. to "edition area" (to be in synch with example in 2C1.1.
MT: It seems a little silly to include the note about the date of publication being supplied by the revision date (because it will seem obvious to anyone looking at the record), but 4D4.1 and 4D6.3. both say we have to provide a note explaining where the supplied pub. date came from. Hmm, maybe that requirement should be qualified to say "unless the source of the supplied date is a date recorded in another area of the description" ...

4D6.4 (publication bears both a date of publication and a date of copyright)

, 1865

Optional note: "Entered, according to Act of Congress, in the year 1863, by J.H. Colton, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of the State of New York"

4E1. Place of manufacture

Boston, New York, and Chicago : Ginn & Company, publishers, 1910 (Edinburgh and London : Printed by W. and A.K. Johnston Limited)

Status: Used 4/20/13

RB: The transcription of this example involves transposition and the manufacturer information comes from the colophon. But, for this example, notes are probably not required, right?

MT: I agree that a transposition note is not needed for the purposes of this example. 12/17/12

4E2. Supplied place of manufacture

RB: Need to verify imprint. 5/11/13

Status:

RB: Keeler is clearly the publisher; there is a registration of deposit statement in his name on the map. 5/13/13

MT: The place of manufacture actually appears with the manufacturer name, so we can't use this example for this rule. 5/13/13

RB: D'oh! How many times can you look at something and not see what's right in front of your face??
