MT: No, this is where the differing definitions of "state" (book vs. map) can be confusing. I see that LC has State 2 <http://lccn.loc.gov/87690702> and separate bib records are definitely called for because the s.o.r. and 260 field differ substantially. I made the example read:

It looks like there is no substantial difference between them other than the plate mark, so according to App. E we would use a single bib record by default (and the note would be a LOCAL note). However, this means we can use this example to illustrate the alternative rule. I've done it as follows. 5/18/13:

I appreciate that people are finding examples in bib records (both here and the example above) but the Latin skills of the person who created these bib records might be as bad as mine, so I'd prefer it if someone who definitely knows their Latin could sign off on these. 11/11/13

MT: At the NYC meeting in Dec 2012, we had settled on something like this:

That is because Norie was responsible for the only two editions of the map that we could find (1837 and 1856) and the 1837 edition had also been called "A new edition ..." (possibly indicating that it was based on earlier maps that Norie had drawn that were published by Heather) so the phrase "Additions, 1856" seems to be functioning as a "statement relating to a named revision of an edition". We thought the DCRM(C) example would go under 2D1, so that section would look something like this:

Does that seem reasonable?
LSC: Manon, isn't the way this is now treated a case of a transposed edition statement? If so, should there be some ellipses and a note to the effect that the edition statement has been transposed? Does the question of a named revision of an edition now become pointless? After looking at the item, I would agree with putting the "Accompanied by a sailing guide" in a note. I can live with Randy's solution, except that your research indicates that the statement of responsibility seems to relate to the work, not just the edition.
MT: Yes, this is a case of a transposition and a note to that effect would be required in the full MARC record (though no ellipses would be called for). I did provide a transposition note in the brief mock-up of the bib record above (On map, the hydrographer's name appears between the "edition" statement and the "additions" statement). I think it's cataloger's choice whether to say the hydrographer or the edition statement is the transposed element. However, for the purposes of using this example in 2D1, we would not include a transposition note. We only include such a note when we are explicitly illustrating a rule that calls for transposition notes. 2/1/8/13

I think it would simply go under 2C1.1 but we already have plenty of examples there.
